I’ll never forget this huge moment of regret I had one day, standing in my bathroom sobbing my makeup off– convinced I was about to ruin my best friends wedding.
Mike and I were broke and my best friend was about to have her dream wedding, I was the maid of honor. I told myself that I didn’t need to go to a specialty salon, I’d get a simple, quick, CHEAP up-do. I got home and I did my makeup myself and while I was working on my face my hair started to bug me, it just didn’t look right.
You know when you have a thread hanging on your shirt and instead of leaving it alone you try to fix it but you only make it worse… so you try some more, and eventually you end up with a hole in your favorite shirt because you didn’t know when to quit. That’s basically what I did to my hair. I fixed and I fixed and it looked worse and worse.
I stood there crying my makeup off with then mess of hair and I was going to be late if I didn’t walk out the door stat. Luckily, when I arrived at the location my best friends cousin was a hair dresser and she graciously fixed my hair. There was no way they were letting me walk down that aisle looking like I did. I learned a BIG lesson that day. When it matters, put yourself in the hands of a pro.
I could list off a truckload of reasons why you should hire a professional hair and makeup artist in lieu of DIY-ing or going cheap, but I’ll just leave 3 big ones here.
You need to be pampered
If you’re anything like me your brain is going 100 miles per hour 98% of the day. You hustle all day long and your to-do list feels never-ending. Allow yourself to be pampered by a pro, let go and trust their process. I know how hard it can be to loosen the reigns, girl believe me. You need time to let someone else do the work for a little while without having to worry. When you’re in the hands of a pro you should feel completely at ease. Let the pro’s dote on you, you’ll feel so good after you’ll never want to go back to old way!
A pro understands how makeup photographs
People always say “the camera add’s 10lbs.” Well, that’s not true– but the camera does wash out makeup and can leave your face looking flat and dull. yuck! Pro artists invest in high quality HD makeup, yes you read that right, high-definition makeup. It’s more pigmented and put on a little heavier than everyday wear so it doesn’t fall away in the photograph. These looks are certainly not when you want to apply every single morning, but they’re perfect for photos!
They are the best cover uppers!
Zits, scars, bug bits, redness, dryness, scratches, bad spray tan, dark circles… What ever your boo-boo is they know exactly what to do to make sure you look your very best. I always tell me girls to get a good nights rest before their sessions, but I totally get that they may lay awake at night running a million reasons through their mind why they could bomb their session. The next morning they’re still nervous about their session AND now they have black circles under their eyes from a crappy night sleep. No worries babe, we make those disappear! You’ll leave the studio lookin’ hot AF.
When it comes to doing something for yourself, especially if you can’t remember the last time you did, go big babe! Put yourself in the hands of true professionals and let them show you a magical time. Don’t be like me and try to do it yourself, you’re just going to add stress to a moment that is supposed to be relaxing and fun!
I LIVE for that big reveal at the end of every hair and makeup session. Watching these women see themselves with new eyes for the first time, maybe everrrr, gives me goosebumps every time.
